StarOil Ltd, one of Ghana’s leading Oil Marketing Companies, launched a loyalty fuel card called the Star Card on Friday, June 28 at the Kempinski Hotel.
According to the company, this card allows customers to purchase fuel at any StarOil branch with a prepaid card while saving tokens to redeem for groceries and other items.
In an interview with Channel One News after the launch, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of StarOil, Philip Tieku, explained that the Star Card serves as an alternative to all existing cards from other Oil Marketing Companies whose fuels are sold at much higher prices.
“The existing fuel cards in the market are all from OMCs that sell fuel at much higher prices compared to us. So we believe that this is a significant milestone that is going to fill a big gap in the market for customers who want quality and affordable fuels and want to buy with fuel cards,” Philip Tieku said.
The CEO further explained that the card goes beyond just purchasing fuel with a prepaid card but also allows customers to save some money which can be redeemed for groceries among other things, ensuring that customers are provided with the best and most affordable oil while receiving some returns on every litre of oil purchased.
“Currently, every StarOil customer that pays us with mobile money gets a four-pesewa per litre reward. With this Star Card, customers will also earn four pesewas per litre every time they buy from our stations. Beyond that, we are about to launch a Point Africa reward system which will allow our customers to redeem their points at various grocery shops at Accra Mall and other vendors. We believe this will allow customers to utilize the points the way they want,” he added.
To use the card, which aims to bring about convenience, customers can fund the card at any of its stations across the country or explore the alternative of funding the card via GCB Bank.
“You can fund your Star Card directly at any of our two hundred and two (202) fuel stations. If you are a GCB customer, you can fund your card via the GCB app.”
In an interview with Channel One News, a customer of Star Oil, Bobby Mensah, expressed joy and satisfaction with the introduction of the Star Card, explaining that the convenience it comes with is unmatched.
“Yes, it will help my drivers. I have a lot of drivers in my fleet of cars. It is going to help them in terms of acquiring oil. Their fuel too is very affordable. Giving us the card will help. It is good,” Bobby said.
The Chief Marketing Officer for StarOil, Vincent Avornyo, in an interview with Channel One News, also explained that the launch of the card is compensation to StarOil customers for their unflinching support and patronage.
He further added that the Star Card will also help customers who have fleets of cars to track the fuel purchased for their vehicles.
“We think we owe our customers something that will benefit them for bringing us to where we are today. If they are not there, we are not there in the first place. This card is not just a fuel card but a loyalty card. Using the card also helps customers who have fleets of cars to track their transactions in fuel purchases.”
The Managing Director of GCB Bank PLC, Kofi Adomakoh, in an interview with Channel One News, applauded StarOil for the achievements it has made as a Ghanaian company.
The Director encouraged all Ghanaian businesses to work closely with their banks to expand and grow, taking inspiration from StarOil.
“We have seen StarOil grow from a very small company to a very large entity like you see today. We are excited because StarOil is a Ghanaian-owned private sector company. What we have seen today proves that when Ghanaian institutions work together, and Ghanaian banks support Ghanaian businesses, they can grow, and that is what you are seeing,” he said.
