Members of the Minority in Parliament staged a dramatic walkout on Thursday, July 24, moments before the Finance Minister, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, was scheduled to deliver the 2025 Mid-Year Budget Review.
According to the caucus, the Ablekuma North parliamentary rerun, which was conducted barely two weeks ago, was marred by voter intimidation, acts of violence, and the deliberate misuse of state security forces actions they say constitute a dangerous affront to the country’s democratic foundations.
Minority Chief Whip, Frank Annoh-Dompreh, declared that the group could not, in good conscience, lend legitimacy to the budget proceedings while remaining silent on what they characterised as “a grave assault on democratic processes”.
