Drama unfolded in the Ghana Premier League on Sunday as Nations FC sensationally walked off the pitch during their high-stakes clash against Holy Stars, following the award of a second contentious penalty to their opponents.

The match, held at the Ampain AAK II Arena, carried immense significance for Nations FC, who needed at least a draw to keep their title hopes alive with just one round of fixtures remaining.

But tension reached boiling point in the 33rd minute when Holy Stars were awarded their second penalty of the afternoon — a decision that sparked outrage among Nations FC players and coaching staff.

Nations FC goal keeper Kofi mensah got into a tussle with officials, which needed police intervention.

It was the second penalty awarded to Holy Stars in the first half  — the first of which had already put them 1-0 ahead.

Nations FC players surrounded the referee in protest, arguing that both penalty calls were soft and unjustified. After a prolonged stoppage and heated discussions on the touchline, the Nations FC team, made the shocking decision to walk off the pitch.

Fans watched in disbelief as the entire Nations FC squad exited the field, refusing to continue the match.

The game was eventually abandoned after players and officials of Nations FC refused to return to the pitch.

The Ghana Football Association is expected to make a decision on the incident in the coming days, ahead of next weekend’s season finale.
