The National Road Safety Authority (NRSA) has announced a partnership with 2M Express Limited to address recent concerns about the quality of service and safety on its Accra-Kumasi route.
The engagement comes in response to several complaints about the company’s operations and aims to introduce enhanced safety measures for passengers and drivers alike.
In a positive step, 2M Express Limited has proactively initiated drug testing for its drivers as part of its pre-trip checks, a move commended by the NRSA.
The Authority praised this anti-drug measure, urging other transport operators to adopt similar practices in order to improve overall safety across the sector.
While recognizing the initiative, the NRSA has outlined specific directives to 2M Express Limited to ensure further safety enhancements, including:
- Mandatory Use of Manual Logbooks: The company is required to ensure that all drivers use manual logbooks. This will help enforce speed limits and compliance with regulations concerning maximum driving hours to mitigate the risk of driver fatigue.
- Pre-Trip Operational Inspections: 2M Express is instructed to fully comply with the National Road Safety Regulations, 2022 (L.I. 2468), by implementing required pre-trip operational inspections to ensure minimum operational standards are met before every journey. Records of these inspections must be maintained.
- Refresher Road Safety Training: All drivers are required to undergo refresher road safety training. This training will focus on enhancing drivers’ risk perception and improving their reactions to potential hazards, ultimately reducing the risk of road traffic crashes, injuries, and fatalities.
The NRSA has made it clear that regular inspections, both scheduled and random, will be conducted to ensure that these measures are strictly followed.
The Authority has also warned that sanctions will be imposed if 2M Express Limited fails to comply with these regulations.
The NRSA emphasised its ongoing commitment to collaborating with transport operators to enforce high service quality standards and to reduce road traffic incidents.
