Allegations that four police officers were detained for arresting a judge over a traffic offence have been refuted by the Ghana Police Service, which described the reports as false and without merit.
In a statement signed by the Head of the Public Affairs Unit, Superintendent of Police Joseph Benefo Darkwah, it was stated that the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) had dismissed media reports alleging that officers involved in the arrest of a Circuit Court judge had been detained.
According to the CID, the claims originated from a petition submitted on 7th April, 2025 by a Circuit Court judge, in which it was alleged that, on 13 December 2024, four officers from the Adenta Divisional Police Command—led by Inspector Godwin Dey—had harassed her, assaulted her court clerk, and wrongfully towed her vehicle from the Adenta Court Complex to the police station.
It was noted by the judge that, despite a formal complaint having been lodged with the Adenta Divisional Command, no official response had been received.
As a result of the petition, an investigation was initiated by the CID, and the officers involved—Inspector Francis Adjei (No. 53349), G/Sgt Dasebre Oti Boateng (No. 53852), and G/Cpl Jonah Ajubulisa—were invited to provide statements at the CID Headquarters.
Superintendent Darkwah clarified that, at no point during the process, had the officers been detained.
“At no point were the officers detained, as has been falsely reported. We therefore urge the public to disregard the publication and treat it as false and without any basis,” the statement read.
It was assured by the police administration that the investigation would be conducted in accordance with due process.
Furthermore, the Service reaffirmed its commitment to supporting officers who lawfully discharge their duties, while also ensuring that all allegations of misconduct are thoroughly investigated and appropriately addressed.
The clarification was issued following a media report which claimed that the IGP reportedly ordered the detention of the 4 police officers for arresting a Judge for a traffic offence.
