The Ho High Court 1 has convicted and sentenced seven individuals in connection with the robbery and murder of the late Mawutor Adzahli, a former Assembly Member for Sogakope in the Volta Region.
The judgement, delivered on May 22 by Justice John Ekow Mensah, found three of the accused Richard Adikyere, Stephen Adzibolo, and Emmanuel Hedzro guilty of robbery and murder.
Richard Adikyere was sentenced to life imprisonment, while Adzibolo and Hedzro received 47 years each.
Four other accused persons Samuel Kofi Zotorvi, Christian Zotorvi, Michael Sam, and Obed Ayornu pleaded guilty during the course of the trial.
Samuel and Christian Zotorvi were each sentenced to 15 years’ imprisonment, while Michael Sam and Obed Ayornu were handed 20 years each.
In a statement issued by the Public Affairs Unit of the Volta Regional Police Command, DSP Felix Danku confirmed that “they are currently serving their sentences at Ho Central Prisons.”
The killing of Mr Adzahli, a respected figure in the Sogakope community, shocked residents and sparked widespread concern. The court’s decision marks a significant step in securing justice for the late Assembly Member.
