Gomoa Central MP Kwame Asare Obeng, popularly known as A-Plus, has issued a public apology for his “inappropriate” social media remarks directed at Bolgatanga East MP and former Attorney General, Dr. Dominic Ayine.

In an official statement released today, A-Plus clarified that the offending post came from an impersonator’s account and not his verified platforms.

However, he admitted that his own subsequent Facebook response to Dr. Ayine’s press conference remarks was “disrespectful.”

“Upon reflection, I acknowledge that the tone and choice of words I used were inappropriate. As a Member of Parliament, a younger colleague, and a junior in the House, I sincerely apologize to Hon. Dr. Ayine and to the general public,” he stated.

The controversy began when Dr. Ayine, during a press conference, referenced allegations from the fake account and challenged A-Plus to clarify his stance on a separate National Service Secretariat (NSS) scandal.

A-Plus denied any involvement, stating he had no dealings with the NSS and only assisted an individual seeking media support to clear his name.

“The only time I came into contact with the issue was in November 2024, when a gentleman approached me claiming he was being falsely accused. As a media personality and majority shareholder in a Ghanaian media company (as declared in my asset declaration), he sought my assistance to help clear his name through media engagements. If this support is being misinterpreted as an attempt to suppress the case, I respectfully disagree. I firmly believe that every accused person deserves to be heard.”

Despite distancing himself from the impersonated account, A-Plus took responsibility for his own Facebook post, which he has since deleted as a “gesture of remorse.”

He stressed his commitment to fighting corruption with “integrity, fairness, and mutual respect.”
