The African American Association of Ghana (AAAG) is to host a vibrant health and wellness fair aimed at raising public awareness and empowering individuals to take control of their physical, mental, and emotional well-being.

The one-day event, dubbed “2025 Community Health Fair”, is scheduled for Sunday, May 4, 2025, at the W.E.B. DuBois Center in Cantonments, Accra from 10 am until dusk.

The fair will include a wide range of activities such as free health screenings, wellness workshops, a marketplace of local vendors, and exciting activities for the whole family.

This initiative seeks to underscore the importance of diasporan contributions to Ghana’s development.

By leveraging the expertise and networks of African Americans living in Ghana, the AAAG is supporting the growth of the country’s health sector while promoting cultural exchange centered around shared goals for wellness.

Speaking ahead of the event, Shannan Akosua Magee, President of AAAG, expressed hope that the health fair would its part to contribute to bridging the gap between health education and real-life action, especially for the underprivileged.

“This is more than just a fair. It’s a space where community meets care. We are creating a strong platform where people from all walks of life can access quality wellness resources, learn more about their health, and connect with others on the same path to better living.”

Ms. Magee also encouraged participation from health professionals, non-governmental organisations, families, and individuals, emphasising the event’s goal in exposing people to healthier lifestyle alternatives.

“We believe everyone deserves access to information and services that can improve their lives. This event is about making that access easy, fun, and inclusive,” she added.

The health fair comes at a crucial time, as Ghana continues to grapple with rising cases of hypertension, diabetes, and mental health challenges.

With this initiative, the AAAG Health Fair is seeking to support the Ministry of Health’s efforts to promote wellness and community engagement.
