In a determined effort to reshape public service delivery and enhance development initiatives across the municipality, Daniel Dagba, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Akatsi South, today undertook a working visit to several key state institutions operating within the municipality.
The visit, which included five major institutions — Ghana Water Company, the National Identification Authority (NIA), the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), and the Municipal Health Directorate — formed part of the MCE’s broader agenda to assess operational challenges and map out a practical strategy for institutional efficiency and progress.
Speaking during the tour, Mr. Dagba underscored the importance of collaboration in public administration, emphasising that strong synergy between leadership and institutions is vital for delivering quality services to the residents of Akatsi South.
“Our institutions are the backbone of public service delivery. It is essential that we understand the challenges they face, so we can provide targeted support to ensure our residents benefit from high-quality services,” he stated.
Identifying Critical Challenges
At the Ghana Water Company, the MCE was briefed on infrastructure limitations and the growing demand for potable water. Officials appealed for the modernisation of water systems to keep pace with the municipality’s population growth and urban development.
The visit to the NIA office highlighted persistent logistical and staffing issues that continue to delay the timely issuance of Ghana Cards. The MCE pledged to engage with regional and national directorates to secure the necessary support for improved service delivery.
At the NHIS office, officials raised concerns about difficulties in claims processing and the renewal system, pointing to outdated infrastructure and limited public awareness. Hon. Dagba encouraged the team to intensify community outreach efforts to increase enrolment and enhance understanding of the scheme.
The Electricity Company of Ghana shared insights into problems related to power fluctuations, illegal connections, and delays in new service installations. The MCE assured ECG management of the Assembly’s readiness to support public education campaigns and help facilitate prompt responses to network faults.
At the Municipal Health Directorate, discussions centred on resource constraints, logistical shortfalls, and understaffing at certain health facilities. Hon. Dagba reaffirmed the Assembly’s commitment to supporting the health sector, particularly in the areas of infrastructure expansion and public health education.
A Call to Action
During the tour, the MCE urged staff and leadership across the various institutions to recommit to their responsibilities and align their efforts with the municipality’s development vision.
“Akatsi South is ready for development. But we can only realise this if every stakeholder fulfils their role with diligence and dedication. Let us rise to the occasion and help reposition this municipality for growth,” Hon. Dagba urged.
He added that the Assembly will soon launch a series of stakeholder dialogues and public accountability forums to promote transparency, encourage innovation, and ensure inclusive development planning.
