Another person, Isaac Mensah has filed an interim injunction to halt the extension of Professor Akosua Dickson’s term as the Vice Chancellor of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST).

This follows a similar suit filed by an alumnus of the university, which is supposed to be heard on, Tuesday, July 30, 2024.

On June 20, 2024, KNUST formally declared the reappointment of Prof (Mrs) Dickson as Vice-Chancellor for an additional term.

During its 282nd routine meeting, the University Council approved the Committee’s proposal to prolong her term for another two years, starting from August 1, 2024, and ending on July 31, 2026.

The University Registrar, Ansah Boateng, confirmed the renewal in an official announcement distributed to the university community and the general public.

In a notice of motion dated July 29, the applicant, Mensah indicated that the extension was contrary to the “university’s statutes/laws and in clear breach of good reasoning.”

Meanwhile, the KNUST alumni community has urged the old student, the first applicant to withdraw the injunction against Prof Dickson.

Some unions in the university have also rallied for peace amid the legal dispute over the Vice-Chancellor’s term extension.
