The Minister for Environment, Science and Technology, Murtala Mohammed, has issued a stern warning that anyone involved in illegal mining will face severe consequences.

Speaking on the JoyNewsAM Show, Mr. Mohammed emphasised that the government, with the full backing of President Mahama, is determined to tackle the issue of illegal mining head-on.

He made it clear that individuals from all sectors, whether they are members of parliament, ministers, former ministers, or affiliated with either the National Democratic Congress (NDC) or New Patriotic Party (NPP), will be held accountable for their involvement in illegal mining.

He expressed frustration over the ongoing issue, stressing that the country can no longer afford to continue down the destructive path that has plagued the mining sector for years. “We can’t continue on the same path we’ve been on for so long. It’s time to take firm action,” he stated.

The Minister’s remarks underscore the government’s commitment to addressing the environmental and societal impacts of illegal mining, which has caused considerable harm to the nation’s resources.

His resolute stance reflects a broader commitment to protecting the environment and ensuring that the law is enforced without exceptions.
