The Majority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin has said that the generality of the Majority Caucus in Parliament is in support of the choice of the Minister of Energy, Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh as the running mate for Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.
Mr Afenyo-Markin said the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Bawumia informed the leadership of Parliament about his choice during a meeting on June 28, after which he discussed the choice with members of the caucus.
“The leader of our party, His Excellency Dr Bawumia met with the leadership of Parliament and, in the end, the conclusion is that our respected colleague, Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh is his choice for running mate,” Mr Afenyo-Markin said on Accra-based Citi FM.
He added that “I have engaged the caucus, and the feedback has been positive. The generality of the caucus is in support of his choice.”
The meeting with the leadership of the House, comes after the Asante Akim North Member of Parliament, Andy Appiah-Kubi said he has not been consulted over the choice of running mate but if asked for an opinion, he will not choose Dr Prempeh.
According to Mr Appiah-Kubi, although Dr Opoku Prempeh qualifies to be vice president of Ghana, “I won’t choose him”.
