The Black Queens, Ghana’s women’s national team, have held their first training session in preparation for their upcoming international friendly against Japan.
The squad assembled in Accra on Tuesday night, kicking off a four-day training camp at Union Park, Legon.
Under the guidance of Coach Nora Häuptle, the team held their first training session, which lasted about an hour according to the Ghana Football Association (GFA).
Although 33 players were invited, 25 were available for the initial session, with the remaining players expected to join the camp soon.
Eight additional players are anticipated to strengthen the squad ahead of the friendly match against Japan on Saturday, July 13, 2024.
The Black Queens aim to continue their recent impressive form and challenge the Japanese side.
Great Olympics relegated despite ‘free’ points
This friendly match is a crucial part of Ghana’s preparations as they gear up for the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON). Having missed the tournament since 2018, Coach Häuptle has led the team back to the continental showpiece, and they hope the friendly will boost their morale ahead of the competition.
On the other hand, the Japanese team is using the match as part of their preparations for the upcoming Olympic Games.
Despite their efforts, Ghana narrowly missed qualifying for the Olympics, falling to Zambia in the penultimate round of qualification.
The Black Queens are determined to make a strong impression in the friendly, setting the stage for a successful campaign in the WAFCON.
