The queen mother of Bonwire in the Ashanti Region, Nana Nyarko Frimpomaa has expressed her disappointment over her exclusion from the upcoming Bonwire Kente Festival.
She has accused the chief of going behind her back to launch the Kente festival.
The chief of Bonwire, Nana Bobie Ansah II, launched the Bonwire Kente festival to commemorate the origin of the Kente cloth in the town of Bonwire which was invented over 300 years ago.
Attempts to get the king’s reaction on the matter have proven futile.
Addressing journalists, Nana Nyarko Frimpomaa II, described the action as unjust.
She emphasised the importance of the Kente Festival and its benefits to her community.
Meanwhile, weavers are calling on the government for the establishment of a yarn factory to ensure a steady supply of quality materials.
Some weavers narrate the ordeals they go through in getting the right yarn. They further explain a yarn factory would greatly help them maintain the quality and heritage of Kente.
They are also urging authorities to address the rampant issue of copyright infringement.
