Former Black Queens captain and coach Mercy Tagoe shared her experience transitioning from playing to becoming a referee and coach at a workshop for Women’s Premier League players.

The event, held on June 26, 2026, was co-organized by the Ghana Football Association (GFA) and Malta Guinness.

Tagoe emphasised the importance of planning for life after football. “It’s all about planning,” she said. “Before I end one activity, another has already started.”

She highlighted her own financial planning, revealing, “I built my first house with the money I earned from my first World Cup in the USA. It’s about planning.”

“Even though I couldn’t finish it, I got it to a good level before I later completed it. All this while, I was working with the national service.”

“In as much as I was playing, I was thinking about what to do after football,” she noted.

The workshop, titled “Life Outside Football Capacity Workshop,” aimed to educate players on managing their finances for a secure future after their playing careers end.

Tagoe joined Neil Armstrong-Mortagbe, the GFA’s head of Public Relations and Strategy, as a guest speaker.
