Channel One TV/Citi FM embarked on a tour on Friday, August 2, to present prestigious medals to the top ten contestants of the 2024 Literacy Challenge.

The tour began at Jireh International School in Ashaiman, where Ama Boatemaa Asamoah and Oliver Kwakye Amoah were honoured for their exceptional performances.

The event was attended by the school’s proprietress, teachers, students, and parents of the top contestants.

Leading the team, Head of Programmes Production for Citi FM/Channel One TV, Apiorkor Seyiram Ashong-Abbey, addressed the school, saying, “We gave the top 50 certificates of participation as evidence of their achievement, but for the top ten, we have medals. We hope this will inspire them to battle it out in the final stage.”

The two contestants from Jireh International School expressed their excitement about reaching this milestone. Ama Boatemaa Asamoah told Channel One News, “It is an incredible feeling. I did not know I would come this far, but here I am. I know I will win in the finals.”

Sarah Asante, the proprietor of the school, expressed gratitude to the organisers for this remarkable initiative, stating, “Everything starts from literacy. From mathematics, you name it. So we decided to give them that exposure to join the Literacy Challenge. The teachers have been training them, and we are hopeful for the best. I want to thank Channel One TV, Citi FM, and all sponsors for bringing such a programme.”

Jireh International School holds the bragging rights for the Literacy Challenge 2023. The English Tutor and Trainer, Moses Tetteh Nartey, shared his role in the school’s past success and expressed optimism about their chances of winning again this year.

“Giving it a try landed us the winners for 2023. This year, too, I was paying attention to Channel One TV and listening to Citi FM to know whether the competition would be held. So when I realised that it would come off, I announced it to my students and encouraged them to participate. I am proud of how far we have come, and hopefully, we bring the trophy home this year too.”

Parents of the participants also shared their joy with Channel One News. “I was super excited when I heard that my daughter (Ama Boatemaa Asamoah) has been selected as part of the top 50 and subsequently the top ten. It gives me so much joy. This event is important because I can see it builds the students’ self-confidence.”

These top ten contestants will compete in a quiz competition on Saturday, August 17, 2024, with the winner walking away with GH¢10,000, bragging rights, and a trophy.

The Literacy Challenge 2024 is powered by Citi FM, supported by Channel One TV, and sponsored by Ghana National Gas Company, Alife Soap, Fortune Spread for Bread from Wilmar Africa Limited, Webie Biscuits by M4 Foods, and Prospectus Ghana Limited.
