A security expert has noted that the burning of the residence of the suspect in the murder of two children at Kpakpayili, a suburb of Tamale in the Northern Region has a high tendency of compromising the entire investigation by the Police.
Already, concerns have emerged questioning the rationale behind the decision by the police to grant bail to the suspect.
The suspect, a spiritualist identified as Mallam Madahi in whose abandoned vehicle in his house the bodies were discovered, was granted bail in less than 24 hours after his arrest and his confession to the offence.
The almost decomposed and dismembered bodies of the two deceased children who went missing since June 22, have since been deposited at the Tamale Teaching Hospital morgue pending autopsy.
Following the incident, his residence was razed down by an irate youth and this, experts have described as unfortunate.
Security analyst Adib Saani in an interview on 3FM Mid-Day news, July 2 said even though the residents were enraged over the suspect being bailed, the burning of his residence has helped the suspect to lose crucial evidence.
“They burnt down his residence and it’s unfortunate. When criminals perpetrate an act, to cover their back they burn the place, so by burning his place, you are aiding and abetting. You have helped the suspect lose crucial evidence.
I do understand that tensions are high, but that notwithstanding the laws must be applied. It’s going to affect the investigation in its entirety. It will compromise evidence,” Adib Saani said.
He fears the suspects’ disappearance may fuel tension but entreated the Police to reassure residents of their commitment to ensure justice is served.
“Notwithstanding, I believe there is a window of opportunity, and the Police will have to do more. Confessing to the crime will not be enough if suspect says he was coerced to say that under duress. I am sure the Police knows where he is, but they will need to engage the community and assure them of justice,” he added.
