Some unknown persons have stolen a transformer belonging to the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) at Bunso in the Fanteakwa South District of the Eastern Region.
The 100kVA transformer valued at GH¢ 71,000 was shockingly taken away by unknown persons last week at the Bunso Police barrier next to the police station.
The transformer stationed on the land of the CSIR- Plant Genetic Resources Research Institute and just a stone’s throw away from the Bunso Police Station and Fire Service command is suspected to have been stolen while the personnel were on duty.
The unfortunate incident has resulted in power cuts to these institutions and households in the enclave for more than a week now.
Channel One News’ sources at the Eastern Regional Office of the power distribution company who are deeply worried about the incessant attacks on their installations are working tirelessly to replace the stolen transformer which will come with an extra 20 percent cost.
Management again wants security agencies to be very proactive and vigilant to help clamp down on the criminal elements whose activities have become a threat to the stable power supply.
