The inaugural National Conference of the Safety, Health, Environment and Quality Practitioners Association of Ghana (SHEQPA-GH) is set to be a landmark event in Ghana’s workplace safety evolution.

Slated for April 28, 2025, at the Kempinski Hotel Gold Coast City in Accra, the conference will gather leading experts and stakeholders under the theme: “Revolutionising Health and Safety: The Role of AI and Digitalisation at Work.”

Dr. Abdul Rashid Hassan Pelpuo (MP), Minister for Labour, Jobs and Employment, will serve as Special Guest of Honour.

A strong advocate for inclusive labour policies and safe working environments, Dr. Pelpuo’s presence affirms government’s commitment to innovation and worker wellbeing.

Delivering the keynote address will be Richard Kofi Adjei, Chief Inspector of Mines. He will offer crucial insights into how AI is transforming safety compliance and regulation in high-risk sectors like mining.

Dr. Koduah Dapaah, a leading voice in occupational health, will speak on how technology is reshaping workplace health protocols and driving safety-first cultures. Desmond Boahen, Deputy Chief Inspector of Mines for Technical Services & Explosives, will focus on inclusive practices in contractor safety and the importance of human-centred transformation.

An influential panel of industry leaders will share real-world strategies and experiences, including:

  • Georgette B. Sakyi-Addo, President of Women in Mining Ghana, on gender equity in safety;
  • Kwabena Owusu-Akyaw, Senior Processing Manager, Golden Star Wassa Ltd, on scaling safety integration;
  • Kwadwo Opoku Ansah, General Manager, Adamus Resources Ltd, on building proactive safety cultures;
  • Ahmed Salim, General Manager of Operations, Atlantic Lithium, on leadership’s role in prioritising care and wellbeing beyond compliance.

Adding a continental perspective, Gert Venter, General Manager for Africa at Strata Worldwide, will highlight how innovation and agile product development are reshaping mine safety.

With more than 25 years in South African mining, Venter brings a wealth of experience in embedding operational accountability into safety systems.

The conference is proudly backed by ZiJin Mining as Platinum Sponsor and Strata Worldwide as an Official Sponsor—underscoring strong industry support for SHEQPA-GH’s vision.

More than a conference, this is a launchpad for the future of safety in Ghana. All industry players, policy makers, and professionals are urged to attend, engage, and help drive the transformation.
