Sanlam Group in collaboration with Santam has unveiled the shortlist for the prestigious Sanlam Group Awards for Excellence in Financial Journalism 2023.

Media General’s George Kwaning is up for honours in two categories. The Business and Society and TV/Video reporting categories.

With 170 entries from 13 African nations this year, it reaches a historic high and highlights the vibrant financial journalism landscape on the continent.

The chair of the independent judging panel, Nixon Kariithi, highlighted the important role financial journalists play throughout Africa while applauding the excellent quality and complexity of the applications.

The awards ceremony, where the 2023 Sanlam Group Financial Journalist of the Year and category winners will be announced, is set to take place at a gala event in Johannesburg on 25 July 2024.
