Evelyn Korang, the former Eastern Regional Women’s Organiser of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC), emerged victorious in the Eastern Region Council of State election held on Tuesday, February 11.
She secured 17 votes out of 66 votes cast in an election with 24 candidates.
Ahead of the polls, many political pundits had predicted a strong contest between the party’s former regional chairman, John Owusu Amankwah, Nana Afia Effah Asantewaa Afrifa (a Queenmother and former Board Chairman of the Ghana Tourism Authority), and Seth Adjei Baah, popularly known as SHABA.
However, the 59-year-old Evelyn Korang triumphed over them.
In the final results, Nana Afia Effah Asantewaa Afrifa came second with 12 votes, followed by Asiedu Offei with 9 votes, and John Owusu Amankwah with 8 votes.
