In a move to restore order and ensure public safety, Greater Accra Regional Minister Nii Kwartei Titus Glover has intensified efforts to crack down on the illegal sale of livestock in unapproved areas particularly along the Kanda stretch.
The roadside livestock trade has been a long-standing issue, contributing to traffic congestion and sanitation problems.
Prior to the Eid Celebrations, Titus Glover together with some assemblies agreed for these animals to be sold by the roadside, and after the celebrations cease the sale at shoulders of the road.
During a recent visit to ascertain the level of adherence to directives and warnings to livestock traders against selling livestock on the shoulders of the road, after the Eid Celebrations, the minister said, “I gave them the warning to take them off after the Salah. The Kanda Highway will not be declared as a place to sell cattle. This is a city and a highway. We’ve turned the whole place into a cattle market, and it is a nuisance.”
Titus Glover Added, “anybody who wants to sell cattle should go to the approved places.”
For some livestock traders the Minister’s visit only coincided with their preparations to clear the area.
Osman Issah and Mamud Abdallah who are both livestock traders, said “we are on the exercise and the minister came to meet us. By the end of the day we will make sure we remove every animal from the roadside.”
Regional Minister Titus Glover emphasized the urgent need to enforce regulations that prohibit the sale of livestock on the shoulders of the road.
The Minister’s visit was part of a broader campaign to enhance urban management and address public health concerns.
