President John Mahama has announced that as part of programmes to celebrate the 50th golden anniversary of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), Ghana will offer one thousand tertiary education scholarships to students from the sub-region.

“Ghana is offering a thousand scholarships to tertiary students from across the ECOWAS sub-region to study in our universities,” he said while speaking at the launching ceremony of the anniversary in Accra on Tuesday, April 22.

President Mahama said the move is part of efforts “To strengthen regional bonds.”

He added that “This is not just a gesture, it is an act of solidarity, it is a brace to a future where our young people will grow seeing each other not as foreigners but as partners.”

The President emphasised that “Ghana reaffirms its unwavering commitment to the ECOWAS vision and to the values of dialogue, peace, and partnership that sustain it.”
