Ghana’s Rose Amoanimaa Yeboah’s name is synonymous these days with gold medals.
She has won a gold medal at almost every meet she has participated in since she burst onto the scene in 2019 at the African Games in Rabat.
Earlier this week, she retained the gold medal she won at the African Athletics Championship (AAC) in the island country of Mauritius in 2022.
In Douala, she jumped a height of 1.87m to pick up another gold medal and is now a force to reckon with in her sport on the continent but Rose concedes she could’ve done better in Cameroon.
“I am happy I won, but it could have been better. I think the tracks were not good enough for a smooth takeoff” She told Ghana Athletics.
Yeboah jumped 1.97m earlier this year at the NCAA in the United States to become the first Ghanaian woman to qualify for the Olympic Games in high jump.
In March this year at the African Games in Accra, she cleared the bar at 1.90m to win gold so the performance in Douala albeit winning the gold medal would feel underwhelming.
“I was happy that I had to make two attempts to be able to make the mark. It was frustrating but thank God I made it” Yeboah said.
Ghana’s Esther Benewaa finished 10th in the competition after clearing the bar at 1.65m.
