Legendary Ghanaian actress, Grace Omaboe, better known as Maame Dokono, has opened up about her tumultuous experience in politics.

Mama Dokono shot to fame after starring in the popular Akan Drama series Obra on GTV and as host of By The Fire Side.

The legendary entertainment icon’s political journey began during the late Jerry John Rawlings’ administration when she joined the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

Her association with former First Lady Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings brought her closer to the party’s inner circle.

But her political allegiance shifted when Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo became the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) flagbearer in 2008. Unfortunately, this decision proved to be a turning point.

Following the NPP’s electoral defeat, Maame Dokono faced intense backlash, with many blaming her for the party’s loss.

on September 7, 2024, Maame Dokono will celebrate 6 decades of being in the showbiz industry. Some of the activities to mark the remarkable feat include a health screening and the release of her book.

Speaking to the press at the launch of the event on Tuesday, July 30, Maame Dokono vowed to steer clear of politics.

The 79-year-old expressed her regret over her political involvement, stating, “If you are in politics and your government doesn’t win it becomes a problem… I will say I joined the two parties and I really suffered…so because of what I am doing.. I decided not to do it again”.
