The Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC), Jean Mensa, has called for sustained efforts to promote gender equality, acknowledging the progress made while stressing the need for further advancements.
In a statement commemorating International Women’s Day on 8th March, she extended her congratulations to the female staff of the Commission, commending their resilience, dedication, and professionalism in ensuring credible elections.
She acknowledged their vital contributions to the nation’s democratic process, particularly in delivering the peaceful and transparent electoral results of 7th December 2024.
Madam Mensa also recognised Ghana’s achievements in gender equality, paying tribute to pioneering women who have paved the way for future generations.
However, she noted that significant barriers still exist, limiting the full participation of women and girls in various sectors of society. She emphasised the need for continued action to address these challenges.
She urged stakeholders to intensify efforts in fostering an inclusive society where women and girls have equal opportunities and representation.
“Let’s unite to accelerate progress and work together to build a fair and just society for all,” she stated, underscoring the importance of collective action in achieving gender parity.
Addressing young women and girls, she encouraged them to remain determined and confident in their abilities.
She praised their courage and strength, describing them as a source of inspiration and a testament to the potential of women in shaping the future.
Madam Mensa further honoured the contributions of women who have played a pivotal role in the Electoral Commission’s history over the past three decades.
She reaffirmed the EC’s commitment to advancing gender equality and ensuring that women continue to have a strong and influential presence in Ghana’s democratic institutions.
