John Yeboah is quickly gaining recognition in international football, sparking interest among Ghanaians due to his roots in the West African country.

The winger, who plays in the Polish top flight, is currently representing Ecuador, his mother’s homeland, in the ongoing Copa America. Although his father is from Ghana, Yeboah has chosen to make his mark in his first major tournament with Ecuador, after switching his national allegiance from his birth country, Germany, to the South American nation.

Here are 10 facts about the former Wolfsburg player.

Yeboah currently plays as a winger for Ekstraklasa club Raków Częstochowa in Poland. He joined the club last summer and has a deal running through until 2026 of June.
Interestingly, the 24-year-old was born in Germany to a Ghanaian father and Ecuadorian mother but opted to play for Ecuador.
Despite being just 24, John Yeboah is already playing for his seventh club in his professional career. Some other clubs he has featured for excluding loan deals include, Wolfsburg, VVV-Venlo and Slask Wroclaw
He showcased his prowess in the Ekstraklasa league winning the Player of the Month for February 2023.
He is a former German youth player having featured for the European giants from U16 through to U20. He scored a total of nine goals for the youth national teams of Germany in 27 games.
Despite only making his debut a few months ago, Yeboah already has two goals in four matches for Ecuador.
Copa America 2024, is his first major tournament in his promising career. The German-born Ghanaian aims to capitalise on the competition to attract more interest.
His highest scoring season was in the 2022/23 season where he tallied 13 goals in 36 games while playing for Śląsk Wrocław.
He began his youth career with Hamburg clubs SV Rönneburg and FC Türkiye Wilhelmsurg. In 2015, he moved to the youth team of VfL Wolfsburg and eventually earned a promotion to the senior team. He made his professional debut for VfL Wolfsburg in the Bundesliga on November 3, 2018.
He made his debut for Ecuador on March 22, 2024 and scored in the game against Guatemala in an international friendly.
