The Minister for National Security, Albert Kan Dapaah, has urged ECOWAS breakaway countries to collaborate with the regional bloc in combating terrorism.

According to the Minister, the surge in extremist attacks and terrorism in West Africa is deeply concerning, necessitating a collective effort to address this challenge.

In an interview with Citi News at the Ghana Catholic Bishop’s Conference, held under the theme ‘SPI National Forum on Social Cohesion, Security, and Peaceful Elections’, the Minister for National Security, emphasised that despite political differences among African nations, security remains a paramount concern, underscoring the need for collaboration to effectively counter terrorism.

“Security is everything, we believe that for the purposes of our security, we should be able to continue to work together, even if there are political differences. It is the only way we can fight these terrorists.

“Today, that doesn’t seem to be the case because some of the countries want to do it on their own, particularly the three Sahelian countries believe that they can try it on their own.

“I don’t think that is the best way to go about it, because of political differences. In my humble opinion, it is not the best. Let us continue to have the political differences. Even within the same countries, there are political differences, there will always be political differences.

“But at all times, let’s make sure that there are no differences when it comes to making sure that our countries are safe, peaceful and secured,” Kan Dapaah suggested.
