A man has been arrested after a “serious incident” in north Dublin, Irish police have said.

Several people are believed to have been stabbed during the incident, the PA news agency reported.

The man was arrested in the Stoneybatter area of the city on Sunday and is currently being detained at a police station.

Police remain at the scene but said there is no “ongoing risk to the public at this time”.

They said further updates will be provided when available.

Sinn Féin president and local TD (member of parliament) Mary Lou McDonald said in a post on X: “My thoughts are with those injured and their families. The community is in a state of shock.

“The Gardaí [Irish police] and emergency services are to be commended for their response.”
