Edem, an award-winning Ghanaian Rapper, has revealed a hidden motive behind why many musicians in the country apply to become members of the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA).

According to Edem, MUSIGA, which is meant to empower Ghanaian musicians to be self-reliant, creative, and industrious, no longer fulfills that purpose.

He believes that most people join MUSIGA to obtain a membership card that allows them to easily travel abroad without facing many obstacles at the embassy. Apart from that, Edem claims that there is not much else that the union offers.

MUSIGA was established to unite musicians and protect their rights, but it has faced constant criticism over the past eight years.

Edem, like many other musicians in Ghana, has lost interest in the union and doubts that it will improve under the leadership of the new president, Bessa Simons.

While acknowledging the past achievements of MUSIGA, Edem believes that unless the union is run as a business, it will not succeed.

Currently, Edem is promoting his new single titled “We Don’t Really Care,” a song that promotes a carefree and partying lifestyle.
