The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has accused the National Democratic Congress (NDC) of being determined to orchestrate violence in the upcoming Akwatia by-election, raising alarms over a potential threat to the electoral process.

The party’s Communications Director, Richard Ahiagbah, stated that the NDC is actively planning to disrupt the polls through the use of trained thugs, a move the ruling party finds deeply concerning.

According to Ahiagbah, the NDC’s strategy involves clandestinely clothing these individuals in police uniforms to facilitate their deployment and cause chaos.

Speaking at a press conference at the party’s headquarters in Accra, he claimed the governing NDC has been training these operatives under the guise of national security, repurposing thugs previously used in the Ablekuma North constituency.

In response to this alleged plot, the NPP issued a stern warning that any soldier found involved in the electoral process would be considered and dealt with as a thug.

Furthermore, the party has made a direct request to the Inspector General of Police (IGP), demanding that all police officers on duty must wear their official name tags.

This measure, Ahiagbah explained, is critical for the easy identification of legitimate officers and to prevent the successful infiltration of unauthorized persons into the security apparatus.
