Former Deputy Minister for Finance, Dr Alex Ampaabeng, has openly declared his support for Kennedy Agyapong in the upcoming New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential primaries scheduled for 31 January 2026.

His endorsement comes at a critical time as the party prepares to elect a new flagbearer ahead of the 2028 December general elections.

Speaking during a media engagement, Dr Ampaabeng explained that his decision to back the Assin Central MP was grounded in the sentiments of the grassroots and not motivated by personal gain or betrayal.

“To me, whatever decision I am making is nothing based on betrayal. It is based on the information I have received, on the grounds that the people out there who sent me believe that bringing Kennedy Agyapong and giving you power,” he stated.

Dr Ampaabeng emphasised that his allegiance to the NPP remains unshaken, but he believes Kennedy Agyapong represents the change and leadership that the party and country currently need.

He added that his engagement with party members and ordinary Ghanaians across the country revealed a strong desire for bold, decisive leadership, which he believes Agyapong embodies.
