Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, the Inspector General of Police (IGP), has stated that the #OccupyJulorbiHouse protesters have failed to provide any evidence to support their claims of police brutality against some of their members.
The protest occurred from September 21 to 23, 2023, with over 50 protesters being arrested by the police.
The incident caused public outrage, as Ghanaians accused the police of using excessive force against unarmed civilians.
To address concerns about the planned demonstration at the Jubilee House, the IGP met with leaders of the Democracy Hub group, who organised the protest, on September 22, 2023.
During the meeting, it was established that there was no evidence or reported cases of assault against the demonstrators.
In a meeting with the leadership of the Ghana Private Road Transport Union in Accra on Tuesday, the IGP stated, “Until today, there has been no evidence presented to indicate that the police brutalised them since the completion of that demonstration months ago.”
