Dear Hon. Andrew Egyapa Mercer,
I trust this letter finds you well and in good spirits. Allow me to extend my heartfelt congratulations on your recent appointment as the Minister for Tourism, Creative Art and Culture.
Your selection marks a significant moment for our region, as you become the third minister from the Western Region to oversee this vital sector, following in the footsteps of Hon. Catherine Abelema Afeku and Hon. Barbara Oteng Gyasi.
It is also a testament to the wealth of talent and potential within our region, a fact which is not only visible in the present but also verifiable historically.
However, despite the illustrious lineage of Ministers from our region, the fortunes of our community within the tourism and creative arts sector haven’t seen any significant improvements, a situation that necessitates my correspondence today – to draw your attention to a matter of great significance to our region: the completion of the Centre for National Culture at Fijai.
Andrew Egyapa Mercer
You may recall that the construction of this cultural landmark commenced many years ago during the tenure of His Excellency Jerry John Rawlings of blessed memories, the first President of Ghana’s Fourth Republic. Despite promises made by successive administrations, the project remains incomplete, leaving a palpable sense of disappointment and frustration among our creative community, particularly event organizers. The lack of suitable event centers in the area poses a significant challenge, hindering the growth and vibrancy of our cultural and entertainment scene.
Once completed, the Centre for National Culture will accommodate up to 5000 individuals and inject new life into the creative space, enhancing the city’s nightlife, and helping with nurturing of more talents in the region. Investment in such an infrastructure is not only prudent but also economically viable, as the revenue generated from its utilization will contribute to its sustainability.
Given your esteemed position as the Member of Parliament for Sekondi, where the edifice is located a few steps away from your Constituency, I firmly believe that your tenure as Minister for Tourism, Creative Art, and Culture presents a golden opportunity to bring this long-awaited project to fruition. By prioritizing the completion of the Centre for National Culture, you have the chance to leave an indelible mark on history, and it is my firm believe that your work in this regard will not be forgotten by your constituents.
Undoubtedly, navigating the complexities of government bureaucracy and securing the necessary funding for such a project may present challenges. However, I implore you to seize this opportunity and make the completion of the Centre for National Culture a top priority of your stewardship. Your leadership and dedication to this cause will not only enrich the cultural landscape of our region but also demonstrate your unwavering commitment to serving the needs and aspirations of our community.
I stand ready to offer my full support and assistance in any way possible to help bring this project to fruition. Together, let us work towards realizing the vision of a vibrant and thriving Centre for National Culture that will serve as a beacon of cultural excellence and pride for posterity.
Thank you for your attention to this important matter, and I eagerly anticipate the positive impact of your leadership on our community.
Yours Sincerely,
Magnus Ekow Koomson
Takoradi.
