Benjamin Kofi Quashie, the Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) South Africa branch, has revealed that processes to arrest the Member of Parliament for Asin South, Rev Ntim Fordjour, are nearly complete, and he will soon be taken into custody.
He disclosed this on JoyPrime’s News Flash on Monday, April 7, following allegations made by the MP that some aircraft had landed in the country to engage in cocaine trafficking and money laundering activities.
“I can confidently say that the processes (to arrest him) are almost complete,” he noted.
He added that the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, who must play a significant role in the processes, is “out of the country”. He is, however, optimistic that upon his arrival, the arrest of the MP will be effected.
Rev Ntim Fordjour, Ranking Member of Parliament’s Defence and Interior Committee, has alleged that some aircraft that landed in the country for a couple of days were engaged in money laundering and illicit drug trafficking.
The allegations made by him at a news conference sparked widespread attention, particularly within political circles, with many questioning the MP’s claims.
The government has since denied the claims, explaining the circumstances under which the aircraft landed in the country and departed.
There is therefore pressure on the MP to provide concrete evidence to back his claims.
The situation continues to unfold, with many anticipating further developments in the coming days, after the MP’s party, the New Patriotic Party (NPP), also backed the claims and demanded a thorough probe by the government.
