Organised Labour has called on President Akufo-Addo to order forensic investigations into the sale of hotels belonging to the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) to the Agric Minister Bryan Acheampong.

Ahead of its meeting today with the President, leadership of Organised Labour say, they expect the President to announce a cancellation of the sale agreement.

Some of the leaders of Organised Labour spoke exclusively with our labour correspondent Daniel Opoku ahead of the meeting at the Jubilee House in Accra.

The President of the Coalition of Concerned Teachers, King Ali Awudu is of the view that the President should announce a cancellation of the agreement.

He also suggested that the President should consider introducing cost of living allowance for workers.

“We need to meet the President to look at the way forward. For example, for our base pay which we are yet to start negotiations, the general conditions of labour in the country, the sky rocketing issues and the need for the President to give us some kind of COLA,” he said.

The General Secretary of the Public Services Workers Union (PWSU), Benard Adjei also appealed to the President to consider the fact that SSNIT was established to serve the interest of workers.

“SSNIT was not set up to do investment that will be handed over to political appointees. In any case, it is their duty to manage these things well for the benefit of the ordinary worker and the citizens of this country,” he said.

The General Secretary of the Ghana Federation of Labour, Kenneth Koomson suggested to President Akufo-Addo to direct investigations into the sale agreement.

“Considering the fact that this transaction is characterized by some transactional deficiencies, the President in his supreme wisdom understanding the tenets of good governance should cancel this transaction.

“He should put a stop to it and if possible, recommend a full forensic investigation into the happenings regarding the sale of these assets,” Mr Koomson added.
