The High Court in Ho has scheduled July 29, 2024, to deliver its ruling on the SALL election petition challenging the election of John Peter Amewu as MP for Hohoe.
About 17,000 voters from the Santrokofi, Akpafu, Likpe, and Lolobi areas did not participate in the 2020 parliamentary elections in the Hohoe Constituency and were left without representation in the 8th parliament due to the carving out of the Oti Region from the Volta Region under CI 112.
Five Ghanaians hailing from SALL enclave petitioned the High Court in Ho seeking a declaration among other things to nullify the election of John Peter Amewu as a Member of Parliament of Hohoe.
The petitioners claim that the 2020 parliamentary elections held in Hohoe infringed on their rights to vote and representation.
The NDC said it is hopeful that the injustice done to the people of the SALL enclave in the 2020 parliamentary elections will be resolved by the court.
Addressing journalists after the hearing on Tuesday, July 2, 2024, James Gunu, the Volta Regional Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), expressed optimism that the court’s ruling would be in favour of the people of SALL, reflecting the party’s support for the community’s interests and their quest for justice.
“We are confident that we have a very good case, and we believe that no matter how far Amewu runs away from this case, he can only run from his shadows. But, definitely, the day of judgment will come. Even if he runs like a horse, he can definitely never hide. So, on July 29, which is judgment day, we are expecting good news because justice delayed is justice denied.
