Samartex owner Richard Duah Nsenkyire has issued an urgent call for financial support as his team prepares for their debut in the CAF Champions League.

The Timber Giants recently celebrated their historic triumph in the 2023/24 Ghana Premier League, marking a significant milestone in the club’s history.

Despite the success, Nsenkyire expressed concerns about the sustainability of their upcoming African campaign if they were to rely solely on the Ghana Premier League prize money. Samartex received GHC 500,000 for their victory, a sum that Nsenkyire believes is insufficient to cover the expenses associated with competing at the continental level.

In an exclusive interview with 3Sports, Nsenkyire highlighted the financial challenges and appealed for support from various sectors.

“We can’t survive with this prize money for our Africa campaign. It can’t even pay our bills,” he stated, emphasizing the need for additional funding.

Nsenkyire, currently on a fundraising tour, urged corporate bodies, individuals, and philanthropists to step in and assist the club as they represent Ghana on the African stage.

“We are representing Ghana in Africa and I expect all corporate bodies and all individuals, philanthropists, whoever, to come to our aid and help us push the agenda so that in the nearest future, our slot in Africa can be increased. When we do well, it affects automatically everybody in the football family,” he added.

Samartex set for debut Champions League appearance

Samartex will be taking over from Medeama SC, who previously won the league and participated in the CAF Champions League. The Samreboi-based club are determined to make a significant impact in their maiden African campaign, but achieving this will require substantial financial backing.

As the team gear up for the prestigious tournament, the support they receive could be pivotal in ensuring they are well-prepared to compete against the best clubs on the continent.
