Some England fans have been issued with football banning orders following disorderly conduct ahead of the Euro 2024 match against Serbia in Gelsenkirchen on June 16.

The UK Football Policing Unit (UKFPU), in collaboration with German authorities, has been actively monitoring and addressing fan behavior throughout the competition.

Mick Johnson, Head of the UKFPU, praised the rapid response to the incidents, emphasizing that there are clear consequences for those intent on causing trouble, whether in the UK or abroad.

“We are continuing to work closely with our policing colleagues in Germany and have a team of UK officers deployed overseas supporting their operation to deliver a safe tournament,” Johnson stated. “We want fans who are traveling to have a good time, but please remember to drink responsibly, respect the local culture, and don’t get involved in disorder.”

The individuals issued with three-year football banning orders are Todd Hines (21), Liam Jackson (28), and Kyran Alcock (28). Meanwhile, Lewis Dodsworth (29), Jack Hatton (27), and Gary McIvor (38) have been handed five-year football banning orders. Additionally, four other fans have attended court in the UK and were bailed with conditions to surrender their passports.

Euro 2024: England reach last 16 with a game to spare

The UKFPU is continuing to investigate other fans suspected of involvement in the pre-match disorder prior to England’s 1-0 win over Serbia. Johnson stressed that the disorderly individuals represent a small minority, noting, “It is important to stress that the vast majority of England fans in Germany are behaving extremely well, and those involved in any disorder are very much a tiny minority. This has been the case at all of England’s fixtures so far.”

England prepare for knockout test 

Despite an underwhelming performance in the group stage, England managed to top Group C and will face Slovakia in the round of 16. The authorities remain vigilant to ensure the safety and enjoyment of all fans as the tournament progresses.
