Spain secured a dramatic extra-time victory over hosts Germany to reach the Euro 2024 semi-finals.

The match at Stuttgart Arena lived up to its billing as the most anticipated clash of the tournament so far, as Spain secured a 2-1 win.

Dani Olmo opened the scoring for Spain early in the second half, but a late equaliser from Florian Wirtz sent the game into extra time. Both sides came close to winning it, with Unai Simon making a crucial save for Spain.

Just as penalties seemed inevitable, Mikel Merino headed home the winner in the dying seconds to send Spain through.

Spain full-back Dani Carvajal was sent off just before the end for a second yellow card, but it was not enough to spoil the celebrations as the Spanish fans and players greeted the final whistle with joy and relief.

They will now face either France or Portugal in the next round.
