The Tamale High Court presided over by Justice Richard Kugyapaw, has placed an injunction on Dr Mahama Tia Kabiru restraining him from holding himself as the parliamentary candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for the Walewale Constituency in the North East Region.
The ruling, delivered on Monday, June 24, follows a challenge to the election results by the incumbent Member of Parliament, Hajia Lariba Zuweratu.
The court is also expected to rule on a motion to produce ballot boxes and the register used for the January 27 parliamentary primary.
Dr. Abudu Kabiru was declared winner by the Electoral Commission in Walewale after he beat Hajia Lariba as he secured 145 votes to emerge winner.
An embattled Hajia Lariba filed a case at the Tamale High Court disputing the election result.
The NPP in their bid to resolve the matter, requested for an out of court settlement.
The Tamale High Court presided over by His Lordship, Justice Richard Kogyapwah, on Wednesday (27th March, 2024) granted the party’s plea to settle the Walewale constituency parliamentary primary stalemate out of court for a period of six weeks.
Bawumia to Blame?
The NPP North East Regional Chairman of Council of Elders, Professor Naa Nabila Sulemana has blamed the Vice President and flagbearer of the party, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia for his inability to resolve the internal wrangling of the party in Walewale Constituency.
According to the Council of Elders Chairman, the Vice President could talk to the former MP, who is his sister.
