This afternoon, the Teachers and Educational Workers Union of the Trade Union Congress (TEWU-TUC) intensified its industrial action over poor conditions of service.

The union has directed members to remain at home until the government meets their demands.

On Friday, September 19, 2025, the union withdrew its services across all technical and public universities, the Ghana Library Authority, and the Ghana Museums and Monuments Board.

They accused the government of failing to address long-standing concerns of non-teaching staff despite exhausting all laid-down procedures.

Speaking at an emergency meeting with members at the University of Ghana, TEWU-TUC Chairperson Salamatu Braimah said the union would only call off the strike once their demands are met.

“The union’s position is that TEWU has complied with every law of Ghana under the Labour Act. The strike, therefore, is legal, justified and binding,” she explained.
