The Golden Arms, Ghana’s national armwrestling team, is preparing to represent their country at the esteemed 2023 World Combat Games in Riyadh.

This international sporting event, taking place from October 24 to October 28, 2023, guarantees intense competition and highlights the strength and skill of Ghana’s armwrestling talents.

Ghana’s Golden Arms delegation includes two formidable female competitors: Grace Mintah, the team captain and a dedicated police officer, competing in the Women’s 80kg category, and Mariam Kadri Moro, who will demonstrate her prowess in the Women’s +80kg category.

These athletes earned their spots on the team through their exceptional performances at the recent Africa Championship held in Accra.

Leading and coaching this talented duo is Husseini Akuetteh Addy, the Technical Director and Head Referee for Africa, who has taken on the role of coach for the African team.

DCOP Lydia Yaako Donkor, a respected board member of the Ghana Armwrestling Federation (GAF) and chairperson of Greater Accra Armwrestling, is leading the delegation. Sedinam Gbeve Esq. will accompany them as the team’s chaperone.

Their purpose goes beyond competing in the event; they also plan to interact with industry stakeholders in preparation for Ghana hosting the 2024 World Armwrestling Championship. Ghana’s Golden Arms will participate in the Combat Games Armwrestling competition on Friday and Saturday, aiming for top honours.

President Charles Osei Asibey has been appointed as the team leader for Africa, representing not only Ghana but also athletes from Nigeria, Benin, Cameroon, Mali, and Egypt.

The 2023 World Combat Games in Riyadh is a global centre for combat sports, lasting ten days and emphasising the combination of elite sport and community involvement.

The event aims to create a compact and manageable sports spectacle that allows host cities to gain international recognition, engage with their youth, and promote public health and wellness initiatives, inspiring greater participation in combat sports.
