Political scientist, Dr Amakye Boateng, has described President Akufo-Addo’s “excellent” tag on Bawumia and Napo’s ticket as his personal score and not reflective of the country’s political ratings.
For him, the two political figures are only popular in the ruling NPP.
“Dr Bawumia cannot exempt himself from the current economic mess, so this ticket cannot be an excellent one as claimed by the President during his interview,” Dr Amakye Boateng told Sir John, host of GhanAkoma morning show on July 4.
On striking the regional balance, Dr Amakye Boateng said “Nana Addo has deepened factions in the NPP to the extent that, choosing candidates from the North and South extraction would not change anything, because there is still internal wranglings, which need to be dealt with. Things are not straight forward as people believe, there are so many people in the party who are not happy, especially the Kufour faction” he posited.
Comparing the tickets of the two main political parties, he said on the part of the NPP, Dr Bawumia’s only hope is the economy bouncing back and also restoring the confidence of the people.
“Shamefully we cannot grow food, we import tomatoes and onions into the country. When they said we have a solid team and bragged about it, when they introduce the planting for food…where is the food? This makes the NPP ticket very weak” he remarked.
