The Development Queen Mother of Afigya-Kwabre District in the Ashanti Region, Nanahemaa Adwoa Awindor, has praised the Centre for Communication and Culture for organizing the Onyimpon Awards.

The ”Onyimpon Awards”, seeks to celebrate lifetime achievers in the arts and cultural space. The Centre for Communication and Culture, with support from the Ministry of Tourism, Arts, and Culture, Ghana Culture Forum, Ghana Tourism Authority, and the National Theatre on Monday, June 24, launched the maiden edition of the awards slated for September 13.

Some of the dignitaries that graced the well-attended launch include Ken Fiati, Franky5, Daddy Bosco and the Development Queen Mother of Afigya-Kwabre  Nana Hemaa Adwoa Awindor

Speaking to GhanaWeekend, Nana Hemaa Adwoa Awindor underscored the importance of recognizing individuals who have dedicated themselves to ensuring the thriving of our culture and arts.

According to her, “Culture has taken its space in Ghana. It’s in tourism, it’s in our food, it’s in our clothing, it’s in our arts. And I can say that it cuts across.

So, if we want to acknowledge people who have taken time or dedicated their time to see to it that our culture thrives in Ghana, it’s an exceptional idea and we all have to give it the boost and support that it deserves.

The Queen Mother of Afigya-Kwabre and the Veteran television presenter congratulated the organizers for putting up the scheme:

“I remember so well the ECRAG awards. Years ago, we marked it on our calendars. It was one award that we were all looking forward to at the end of the day.

Same as, you know, TGMA is doing now. But this is exceptional, this is specifically for culture. And I think we should give it the boost it deserves so that it can bring up, encourage, and enhance our work.”
