Mother Viola Ford Fletcher, the oldest living survivor of the Tulsa Race Massacre, has given her endorsement to Kamala Harris for the U.S. Presidency.
She expressed her excitement and support, stating, “As a dual citizen of both the US and Ghana… I couldn’t be more excited for Kamala Harris as she embarks on the journey of becoming our first female president. I, Queen Mother Viola Ford Fletcher, and my family endorse her with God’s grace. At 110 years of age… I will be ready, willing, and able to cast my vote in November. Every vote counts!”
This endorsement comes after Mother Fletcher’s 110th birthday.
The African Communications Agency made this known in a statement sighted by Citi News on Wednesday August 7.
In 1921, the Tulsa Race Massacre resulted in the destruction of Black Wall Street, a prosperous African American community in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Mother Fletcher, who was a young child at the time, experienced the tragedy firsthand. Over a century later, she is voicing her support for Kamala Harris, highlighting the significant strides made and the responsibilities that accompany them.
The Agency emphasised that Mother Fletcher’s endorsement serves as a reminder of the importance of participating in the upcoming election, in honour of those who perished in the Tulsa Race Massacre and the many others who fought for civil rights.
The Agency also said that Ambassador Dr Erieka Bennet, the Convening Founder and Head of Mission of The Diaspora African Forum, and Dr Toni Luck, had the distinct privilege of assisting Mother Fletcher in her journey to Africa and in obtaining her Ghanaian citizenship.
it again said Mother Fletcher, a proud voter in Oklahoma, encouraged all eligible voters to register and make their voices heard in the forthcoming U.S. Elections in November.
