The US Soccer Federation reacted strongly to the racist abuse directed at several players following their disappointing 2-1 loss to Panama in the Copa America.
Folarin Balogun, Chris Richards, Timothy Weah, and Weston McKennie were all subjected to online attacks after the team’s defeat in Atlanta. Notably, Weah received a red card for an off-the-ball incident early in the match.

“There is absolutely no place in the game for such hateful and discriminatory behaviour,” declared a US Soccer statement. “These actions are unacceptable and contradict the values of respect and inclusivity that we uphold.”
Despite playing with a man down for most of the game, the US initially took the lead through Balogun’s impressive strike. However, Panama managed to equalise quickly and later secure the win with a goal in the closing stages.
The match also saw a red card for Panama’s Adalberto Carrasquilla for a rough challenge on Christian Pulisic. Both teams are now tied on points heading into their final group fixture against Uruguay.
