In a vibrant ceremony marking its 60th anniversary, VRA Health Services Limited (VHSL) has embarked on a groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of a new Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and Pediatric Ward.

VHSL celebrated its transformation from a modest infirmary to a leader in healthcare innovation and delivery in the Volta Region and beyond.

The event, held under the theme “60 Years of Touching Lives with Quality Healthcare,” was not only a reflection on past achievements but a commitment to future progress.

The event was a celebration of tradition and progress, graced by the royal traditional council of the Asuogyaman area and featuring a symbolic sod-cutting exercise. This marked VHSL’s dedication to expanding healthcare infrastructure to better serve the youngest and most vulnerable patients in the Eastern and Volta Regions.

Dr Kwabena Yeboah, the Medical Director of VHSL, emphasised the critical role the institution has played in the lives of countless Ghanaians over six decades.

“This anniversary is not just about celebrating our history but about looking forward with renewed purpose and dedication,” he stated.

He acknowledged the vision of the founding fathers and the contributions of past management.

VRA Board Chairperson, Mr Kofi Tutu Agyare, reflected on the journey from a small 14-bed facility to a comprehensive healthcare provider with a network including facilities in Accra, Aboadze, and Akuse.

“This is a testament to the endurance, commitment, resilience, and compassion that have defined our journey,” he noted.

Chief Executive of VRA, Mr Emmanuel Antwi-Darkwa highlighted the extensive modernisation of the Akosombo hospital, which began operations in 1964. It now boasts ultra-modern equipment such as mammogram machines, digital X-rays, high-resolution ultrasound machines, and advanced laboratory facilities.

“Our hospital has evolved into a referral centre and a specialised medical training facility, serving both the district and the nation,” he added.

The event drew commendations from government officials, including the Minister of State at the Energy Ministry, Herbert Krapa, who praised VHSL’s leadership and contribution to healthcare in the Asuogyaman District and Ghana as a whole.

“You have become a pivot in healthcare delivery, moving from a facility for staff to a national competitor. This is a testament to the capability of Ghanaians in managing our affairs,” he remarked.

He urged VHSL to continue focusing on innovation and technology as the cornerstone of future healthcare delivery.
