The Star of God Roman Catholic Primary School, located in the Upper West regional Capital Wa, emerged victorious at the 2024 edition of the Radio Progress ‘Best Brains Contest’ with 54 points.
The school faced a steady contest from other finalists, the Wa Methodist School of the Blind Primary School, who came second with 34 points. Huriya Islamic Primary School scored 33, and St Paul Methodist Primary School had 30 points, occupying the third and fourth positions respectively.
Some other schools within the Wa Metropolis who made it to the quarter finals of the contest include Dobile Presbyterian Primary School, Kabanye Islamic Primary School, Fongo Primary School and St Cecilia Primary School.
The Best Brains Contest is an initiative of the Wa-based radio station, Radio Progress, with the Wa Metropolitan Education Directorate as facilitators.
The Wa Metropolitan Assembly serves as collaborators while The Hudu Foundation is the sponsor of the programme.
The initiative is aimed at broadly enhancing the quality of education within the jurisdiction, with specific targets of improving competitiveness, building confidence and also groom the pupils for greater heights.
According to the Metropolitan Director of Education, Sophia Dimah, the sharp dwindling educational standards in the region requires multi-faceted approach to deal with it.
She believes such competitive endeavours provide an atmosphere for enhanced learning. She also pledged to roll out more of such innovated programmes to assist pupils match the standards of their peers from the southern sector of Ghana.
Madam Sophia further expressed her deep gratitude to Alhaji Hudu Mogtari for his support. “This selfless contribution will undoubtedly enrich the educational experience of our students and inspire them to strive for greatness and become better people in our society”.
Alhaji Hudu Mogtari through The Hudu Foundation donated about 2,000 exercise books, award trophies and medals for award winners.
