Rescuers in Myanmar pulled a woman alive from the debris of a collapsed apartment block in Mandalay, more than a day after she was trapped.

After several hours of painstaking work, 30-year-old Phyu Lay Khaing was pulled from the wreckage and carried away by stretcher as bystanders cheered.

She embraced her husband before she was taken to hospital for medical assessment.

More than 1,600 people have been killed in Myanmar and thousands more injured following a 7.7 magnitude earthquake on Friday that also caused significant damage in neighbouring countries.
